Da Capo Dandy delivers again!
We had no runners declared at Hexham on Tuesday but it was another blow for racing in the North when this meeting was cancelled.
On Thursday Da Capo Dandy went for her 3rd win on the trot in the 6f handicap on the AW at Southwell. She loves the course and did not disappoint winning easily again under Liam Keniry for owner Dave Allen. She is a progressive mare and so many congratulations to Barry, Stef and their very dedicated and competent team at our satellite yard in Middleham. This is a great family affair with Stef’s mum Vanessa Tully not afraid to get stuck into mucking out, making the coffee for everyone and babysitting for Barry’s feed and work assistant two year old Annie - Below on Gilmer!
Also on Thursday evening bloodstock agent Bobby O’Ryan made a very exciting purchase on behalf of James at the Goffs Aintree Sale. Tortuga Bay was supplemented for the sale after winning her first Pt to Pt with ease in testing conditions at Brampton Bryan in Herefordshire. Her Dam has produced six winners, most notably Rons Dream, who won so well at Haydock recently and Fistral Beach, a very useful Chaser for Paul Nicholls.
After a precautionary inspection, Newcastle is going ahead with its Saturday meeting where we have four runners – Ascot De Bruyere, Un Guet Apens, Sky Full of Stars and Ange des Malberaux. Good luck to them all!
We also have plenty of further entries this week at Kelso, Carlisle and Newcastle.
Spotlight on our new apprentice jockey Rhona Pindar.
Rhona has joined the yard here as we now have an expanding number of flat horses. Aged 16 straight from school, she worked at Lucinda Russell’s and then moved to Sandy Thomson to be more centrally based for the Point to Points. She rode in 13 Point to Points and two Hunter Chases before moving to Alistair Whillans to ride on the Flat. Weighing only 7st 11, and therefore carrying too much lead over jumps, it was easy to claim off bottom weights on the Flat. Rhona has had 15 Flat rides on more experienced horses for Scottish trainers Lucy Normile, Keith Dalgleish and Mike Smith where she rides out on her days off.
Rhona Pinder in Action
Brian Harding is her weekly jockey coach and Bruce Jeffrey is her agent (07747 854684). Rhona is looking forward to getting some of the Flat horses in the yard to the track. ‘They feel like a really great bunch and with three to run for The Craig Farm Syndicate alone it will be an exciting season ahead’. Rhona is looking for some sponsorship at any level as it all helps to give people a start and without this help and the opportunities so many are sadly unable to fulfil their promise. A very good day for the yard on Saturday at Newcastle. Ascot de Bruyere won the 2m 7f chase impressively by 24 lengths, Un Guet Apens came second in the 2m 4f chase – one of only two to finish – and Sky Full of Stars was just narrowly beaten in the 2m chase. Over the last two weeks our strike rate has been 40%! More details and pictures in the next blog.
