The horses have really thrived at grass this summer and it works so well to have them here so we can deal with any problems immediately as they arise. We are looking forward to bringing them in soon and preparing them for the season ahead.
We are delighted to have a new Yard Sponsor – Fitzdares “The World’s Finest Bookmaker”! Their aim is to be different from other bookmakers with tradition and customer service a priority and they have a London club in Mayfair and another based at Ben Pauling’s yard in the Cotswolds. Yaris Equestrian have made us some very smart rugs and jackets in green with red lettering and red and white piping which will add to our presence in the paddock!
We also have a new George Smith horsebox to replace the two old ones and this is currently being branded with the Fitzdares logo so look out for us on the roads.
The staff have been enjoying their holidays. Our head lad David (now 65 and not out!) is currently in Yorkshire and John is travelling round the British coast in his campervan. Rosie was last seen in Bangkok and so they should be raring to go when they return to the yard!
We have a new member on the team – Emily Grice who lives locally and has ridden all her life and now rides in Point-to-Points and so she will be a valuable addition.
The stables have had a serious overhaul with new roofs and storm proof work carried out after Storm Arwen swept us away last winter. The new surface is now down on the horse walker and drainage work is starting next week on the sand gallop. We have also harrowed, rolled and re-seeded the grass gallop and tidied up the jumps field and so it has been a very busy time and we are now good to go.
We are again supporting the Racing to School initiative and look forward to another visit from pupils at Langholm Academy. The date in September is still to be confirmed and of course we also have our Owners’ Day on Sunday 11th September so this will be a busy month.
There is a select band of exciting horses for the coming season with a steady stream of new arrivals from Ireland with good Point-to-Point form. A number of these are for sale and we would particularly draw your attention to Lethal Industry, Community Rebel and Happy La Vie and their details can be found on our website.
Community Rebel was previously trained alone along with just a donkey for a companion and he is relishing his new Scottish life. Happy La Vie has done particularly over the summer and we are a forming new syndicate. This is a very good opportunity to be involved in an exciting prospect at a very reasonable cost in a busy racing yard.
