Hooray for Harry!

We were due to go to Ayr on Monday 8th January but this was called off because of the weather and so our next entries are for Wetherby on Saturday 13th January.

We were very saddened to hear of Wilson Graham’s death on the 27th December.  Wilson was one of our earliest owners and the most delightful and courteous man.  He and his late wife Margaret really enjoyed their racing and at the time of his death, he had shares in Juge Et Parti and Hapy La Vie.  He will be much missed.

We were very pleased to see Hold Onto The Line continue his winning ways at Musselburgh and record his fourth win at the course – two hurdles and two chases.  He is definitely a case of horses for courses!

Racing Round-Up

With Wetherby cancelled on the 28th December, Escapeandevade ridden by Brian Hughes was re-routed to Ayr on Tuesday 2nd January.  Unfortunately,  conditions did not really suit and carrying top weight, he finished fourth.

We had two runners at Musselburgh on Friday 5th January where conditions were unusually soft and difficult.   Hashtag Lord ran in the 1m 7f Handicap Hurdle with Ryan Mania on board.   He was never happy and so Ryan pulled him up before three out.

Ryan Mania also rode Hold Onto The Line in the next race which was the 1m 7f Handicap Chase and Chloe won BTO.   Harry is suited by a distance of 2 ½ miles and good going.   So, expectations were not high!  Ryan jumped him off in front and there they stayed until headed, approaching two out when he was challenged by Lively Citizen but then the horse stumbled just after landing and fell.   This left Harry in the lead and he galloped strongly to the line to win by 5 ½ lengths.  Undoubtedly, he was lucky, but Ryan said he hated the going and it was his jumping and stamina which stood him in good stead.  He has a great attitude and this was a brave performance in these unsuitable conditions.

Juge Et Parti went to Newcastle on Saturday 6th January where the going was soft (heavy in places) and was ridden by Danny McMenamin in the    2m 7f Handicap Hurdle.   Because of his two recent good runs at Hexham (2nd and a win), his handicap has increased so he was up in grade and he was possibly not suited by the flat track.  He could also have handled more testing going so conditions were not in his favour.  Juge won BTO due to a team effort by Chloe, Marcia from Equine Products and James!
