Escapeandevade is a scopey Westerner gelding who was purchased from Tom Malone after winning a point-to-point (December 21) at Wadebridge by 10 lengths. He had previously finished second to Wasdale Park a subsequent winner in Ireland for Donnchadh Doyle. Captain Broomfield was behind in third and he went onto win a point-to-point beating Forpaddytheplumber who has won twice since under rules. Captain Broomfield also come second to Jungle Jack at Haydock. Escape scored first time out for the yard at Ayr 2m4f soft with Callum Bewley and Lord Roco was second beating subsequent winners. Followed up with two seconds to good form horses Bold Endeavour at Wetherby 138 rated and Grey Skies at Kelso. Now BHA 122 we will likely go chasing as he has improved over the summer and is physically stronger. He is a tough horse and it will be good to have some consistency now as he was in three yards last season. Westerners can be tricky and thrive on routine. He has his own way of going and is happiest when he is at or near the front.
The Sire Westerner was a high-class performer in staying races including five Group 1s and coming second in the 2005 Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe. He is now a highly successful NH sire with multiple Group 1 winners.
Escape is half-brother to Camp David who was well placed in bumpers and Ifyoucanseemenow winner of two points and now in training with Ben Pauling. The second Dam has produced four winners including black type Dix Villez - a Cheltenham cross country winner and successful in five point-to-points, Ghost of a Smile 2m 4f hurdle and chase winner and Val du Ciron, a bumper winner.
