Empire has been a real star over the fences this summer with a second at Aintree to Captain Tom Cat (2m 4f) and then following up with an impressive win back at the track (3m 1f). Still only a seven year old he has now won nine races. He is learning to be a stayer and more professional with every run and we really feel that there is a good race in him in one of the big staying chases at Kelso, Doncaster, Ayr or Newcastle with favoured conditions as with his good jumping, he does not appreciate very testing ground. . Unlucky last time at Cartmel with track, ground and weight against him but as with all good horses he still put up a good show to be second only beaten a length and a half and giving 22lbs to the winner.
By Spanish Moon who is the only son of El Prado (Sadler’s Wells) standing in Europe, he was a Group 1 winner of the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (12f) and is sire of black-type horses under both codes under rules in England, Ireland and France. His daughter Laurina who won six consecutive races 2017/19 including a win at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Dam Ondine de Brejoux has produced seven foals who have amassed 11 wins and 33 places to date including C’Lartist with seven wins and 25 places including the Crystal Cup cross country race at Craon over 3m 6f.
