We are into our second season with the Tapeta™ track the first National Hunt training track of its kind in the UK and also the new surface at Wolverhampton.
Tapeta™ (Latin for carpet) was designed by trainer Michael Dickinson and Joan Wakefield, whose goal was to create the perfect surface for equine athletes. The surface was specifically designed to protect the horse’s well-being; providing a cushion for the legs and feet of horses in training.
Benefits of Tapeta™:
- Safer for jockeys/reduced injuries to horses
- Forgiving to forelegs
- Better stability to the hind leg
- 7-inch cushion
- Reduced kick back
- Vertical drainage system to ease maintenance
The Tapeta™ Footings surface is a patented wax-coated mixture of sand, rubber and fibre which is impervious to weather, never turning to mud and is the only system on the market that stands up to varied and severe weather – perfect for us here at James Ewart Racing where we sit in the depths of the Eskdalemuir valley!
Our Tapeta™ Footings gallop surface at James Ewart Racing sits to the inside of our existing 5 ½ furlong oval sand gallop making the Tapeta™ gallop approx. 5 furlongs in distance. The track benefits from interior and exterior white plastic racing rails and can be accessed at the same part of the current sand gallop.
The Tapeta™ gallop at James Ewart Racing took less than 6 months to build, with the help of Maurice Friel Plant Hire and Michael Dickinson. The grand opening of our Tapeta™ gallop to our owner’s public and the press took place in November 2012, with Michael Dickinson himself cutting the ribbon!
So far the track has been an incredible asset to our facilities at The Craig this season, standing up to the advertised benefits, allowing us to train our horses throughout the season.
Open to the public to use £20 per horse, £12.50 for weekly users please contact the office for further information.
