Wet wet wet...
It's been the December of water unless you've been lucky enough to escape for a few days like mum! But she's back to it again now so I got her to put pen to paper for me.
It's a tough time for people working in racing at this time of year, just when people are winding down for family time and holidays the industry gets busy, we cannot thank everyone enough for their commitment to the horses and their owners.
We have plenty of horses to look forward to running into 2016 with Aristo Du Plessis entered at Musselburgh, we had hoped to take him south over Christmas but the heavy ground altered plans and so we stick to a proven formula. We look forward to his having a tilt at one of the Championship meetings later in the spring and when reunited with stable jockey Dale Irving.
Dale unfortunately broke his collarbone when in contention at Doncaster when a loose horse crossed Lord Wishes path leaving little room to manoeuvre and the inevitable. Sometimes lucky, sometimes not and this time Dale was without the luck - his first break. Hopefully he will recover quickly and be back to it as he is an invaluable member of the team at home and on course.
It was a great day for us at Kelso yesterday and really nice to see Lord Wishes back on form with his win in the 3pm Handicap Steeplechase in the hands of Brian Harding. A huge congratulations for his owner Jim Gordon who has been very patient with him, Lord Wishes suffered a pelvis injury 2 years ago, so it is good to see him getting his confidence back and being the horse he was once.
It has been great to see my namesake! Lucy Alexander return from injury and bang in plenty of winners before the year end - hopefully a few for us now lie ahead.
We are giving away two JER racing calendars - as featured on our Merchandise page, a yard visit and a days racing in our box at Kelso - please answer this question:
Answers to include the name of the race, the racecourse, the horse and jockey - please email answers into firstname.lastname@example.org and the correct answers applicants names will be put into a hat and drawn on 1st January 2016.
We have had some very nice Christmas presents (hope you have too!) some new 2yo's (Porto du Sud and Dunly), 3yo's (Rail Ditch) and a French 5yo with some form at Auteuil; Ascot du Bryuere, - so look out for him on the UK tracks soon. All details of our new arrivals are to follow on the website shortly. There is also another January sales trip on the cards!
The new Theault 3.5 tonne lorry has already racked up a few miles as we felt the Renault horsebox deserved a quieter life after completing 150,000 miles with us and taking us all around the UK - thank you to Atacanter for delivery. There is plenty of space for me so no complaints.
Wishing you a safe, happy and healthy 2016 ahead!
Thank you for your support and following the yard and for taking the time to read this bit of yard news.
I am off for an early night... perhaps a small sulk - not impressed with my Christmas blanket... I cannot move! Help!
