Here at Craig Farm we welcome you at any time to visit us and share the enjoyment of racehorse ownership in any capacity. We are delighted with how The Craig Farm Syndicate has taken off with Unex Canaletto winning recently at 25-1 at Kelso Racecourse. Also our hospitality box at Kelso has been a huge success, a great meeting point -and all adding to the quality of the race day experience.
Last season was a difficult season for everyone in National Hunt horseracing, with weather conditions not helping us here at James Ewart Racing, so the Michael Dickinson's Tapeta™ Surface 5-furlong gallop was installed at exactly the right time for us, meaning we did not lose a day’s training through floods, frost and snow.
At James Ewart Racing we now have an exceptional mix of surfaces to train our racehorses on, all excellent in their own right. The Gallop, with deep sand for resistance training, The Tapeta™ Gallop for fast work and light training, and the Grass Gallop for the finishing work. This means the injury rate with Horses In Training is significantly reduced due to the variation of surfaces and reduced repetition.
Craig Farm has now produced over 100 winners under rules and it’s nice to note that we had two horses who won 4 and 5 races a piece; Sacre Toi and Sleep in First. We have retained our good winner to runner strike rate and runner to place strike rate and the result we are most proud of is our 5 year average of winner to runners chase percentage of 20%.
Exciting horses to look forward to returning to action for the forthcoming National Hunt season are Aikman, Quicuyo and Thorlak. Nice young race horses to follow are Ca Le Ferra, Touch of Steel, Dreamisi, Varene De Vauzelle, Roc De Prince, Leading Score, Avidity, Huehuecoytle and Scorpions Sting once hurdling.
Our aim for the racing season ahead is to increase the winners from our best ever season of 23, increase prize money for our owners and their overall enjoyment of the horseracing sport.
Leading rider Brian Hughes is first Jockey for the yard. - His experience and general involvement is a big asset coming down weekly to school and ride work.
We say a big thank you to our owners for their support of the stable and to longstanding yard sponsor, Graeme Reid of Reid Quantum.
